Earlier this summer I had the opportunity to cat sit for a friend in Somerset. It was lovely to have a whole house to myself and although I didn’t think of myself as a cat person, I really enjoyed hanging out with the lady cat in my care, Ammonite.

Spending so much time in feline company inspired me to create cat inspired artworks, particularly of ‘cats doing human things’. It also meant that I practiced using Procreate on my IPad which is still a new tool for me.

I thought I would share some of the artwork and designs I created that week, some of which have been turned into new cards in my collection.

I asked my followers on Instagram to suggest some activities and one of these was ‘cats doing household chores’. I immediately thought of Freddie Mercury in the ‘I Want To Break Free’ video, and so I drew him as cat. It was also fun to draw cats taking the bins out, dusting and doing the dishes.

I also had someone suggest drawing a Cartographer, so I created a ‘Catographer’….

Another person suggested a nuclear physicist, which was a bit of a curve ball, but I started researching female nuclear physicists and came across Chien Shiung Wu.

I had another request for a cat enjoying some fine dining. I like the slightly confused expression on his face in this one.

And because the Olympics was on, I also had a request for some trampolining cats.

Having created all these cats, I went onto design some new cat themed cards on my Thortful shop, as well as a few cards in my online shop.

I think my next project needs to be dogs doing human things. Let me know if you have any suggestions!
