I created this headdress for a birthday zoom party, and after months of tweaking the design to make it into a kit so you could create it at home, it's finally ready.

This kit is launching today as part of the Indie Roller Fri Yay Surprise Event which is from 9am - 9pm on 28th May 2021.

The original Fruity Headdress I made for my Birthday Zoom Party in March

My birthday this year coincided with the anniversary of the first lockdown in the UK on 23rd March, so I had to have another lockdown birthday celebration. I decided to have a fruit themed zoom party with some friends and whilst they sellotaped various bits of real fruit to hats and headbands, I decided to get crafty and started painting fruit onto some thick cardboard. I added tabs to the fruit and cut out a cardboard headband and stapled the whole thing together, adding some elastic ties to the headband. I also styled it with a vintage headscarf, and my favourite Rosita Bonita shell earrings.

It was a little bit spiky with the staples, and not that comfortable, so I knew I needed to refine the design to make it a kit that other people could make at home. I decided to change the headband from cardboard to foam, and included extra strong glue dots instead of staples to attach the fruit to the headband. A few prototypes later, and I came up with a design that I’m really happy with.

I’ve also created a hand illustrated how to guide to follow when you’re making your kit.
